The Rio Theatre is proud to present documentaries MATT SHEPARD IS A FRIEND OF MINE and Oscar winner THE TIMES OF HARVEY MILK on Friday, May 22 – Harvey Milk Day.

These two films about two very different individuals in two different decades are each astounding portraits of men who, unwittingly, became icons within not just the LGBT community, but important figures of social change and tolerance whose lives and legacies have impacted us all. MATT SHEPARD IS A FRIEND OF MINE director, producer, and editor Michele Josue and cinematographer, Craig Trudeau, are set to join us for an in-person discussion of the film.

Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine will begin a theatrical rollout in twelve cities during  February 2015, following a year of acclaim on the festival circuit and recent accolades at the Side by Side Film Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. A winner of five Best Documentary awards, Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine first opened in New York and two other cities on February 6, followed by Los Angeles on February 13, and has continued to expand into select markets.
